Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician Program

ECG Technician students must complete the Health Science Core with the ECG Technician Program. However, if the student has already completed the Health Science Core Module or has graduated from another health program with a passing grade, repeating the Health Science Core Module is optional.

The ECG Technician Program is designed to prepare the student with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the functions of an ECG technician with high-quality care, performing electrocardiogram tests that record and monitor the electrical impulses transmitted by the heart, properly using ECG equipment, administering diagnostic cardiac tests to patients who may have cardiac problems, such as basic ECG, 12-lead ECG, Holter Monitoring and Stress Testing (treadmill) under the cardiologist’s supervision. Students also learn, as part of the program, relevant aspects of the cardiovascular system and significant wellness and disease concepts, communication skills, laws and ethics, universal precautions, infection control, OSHA guidelines for ECG technicians, and the application of new technologies in the healthcare environment related to the cardiovascular field.

Upon completing the program, the student will receive a Diploma certificate. As soon as he/she gets the diploma, the student can work as an ECG technician.

Upon completing the program, graduates will qualify for employment as healthcare support workers in entry-level positions as Electrocardiogram (ECG) Technicians in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, clinics, outpatient centers, and other medical facilities.

Graduates are qualified to work in Home Health Care, Nursing Facilities, Rehabilitation Centers, and Hospitals, among other places.
